Is “Wildlife” Singular or Plural?

Question: Is the word “wildlife” singular or plural? When I use it as the subject of a sentence, should it take a singular or plural verb?

  1. Here’s an example of “wildlife” treated as a whole group (and thus taking a singular rather than a plural verb): “Wildlife finds remarkable ways to cope with a lack of water.”
